How to make a CBZ file in an easy way

CBZ is a special format created for read scanned comic book into an ebook reader (supporting this format as obvious). Basically CBZ file is a zip file with inside all the scanned pages that is possible to make this file using some zip tool. However using some specific tool allow to automatize the make operation with a lot of useful options.

The free tool we'll show in this post is called CBZ Maker Tool and can be downloaded from here.

Once installed the appearance of main window is the following:

Select the folder containing the pages scan files and you'll have all the files showed in the list. You can see each images by selecting the name in the list:

The images list have a check flag for each image. This allow to exclude some image (a blank page for example) you don't want to be part of your CBZ file. Simply uncheck the image and this will not be considered during CBZ make phase:

Before start CBZ creation there are some useful options you could take in consideration. The first is the possibility to resize each page to a specific width and height (pixels size). This mainly because some ebook reader doesn't resize the image very well for fit the screen. Making a images already formatted for the ebook screen size can help in show better the image inside the screen itself:

Next very useful feature. It happen very frequently both right and left pages of the book are scanned in a single image. This require to cut the unique images in two parts for separate the single pages:

Once enabled this control show a vertical line over the image to sign the cut point. You can move the cut line using the connected control to position in the right point to cut. Once regulated you have to choose which of the two pages are this first to start from. Remember that, for example, original japanese manga start from left to right instead of right to left as normal book. This mean the first page to show in ebook will be the left one:

Another "problem" you can find is to have some scanned images with a large blank border. Is possible to cut out the border by selection this option:

A square will be showed over the image showing the part of the image to cut out. The dimension of the square can be regulated through the control itself:

The software order the images by files name in natural order. However is possible some images are named not correctly and the order of the pages is not correct. You can restore the right order by moving up or down the images through the buttons below:

Once done all the required settings simply click over the "Make CBZ" button and your file will be created in a short time.
